Deus Ex Machina

This project was the culmination of a six-week transnational collaboration. The course comprised Master's Graphic Design students at AKV St. Joost in Breda, NL and Graduate Communications Design students at Pratt Institute in NYC (US).

The students were assigned to groups and students were  instructed to read two articles: “In and Around: Cultures of Design and the Design of Cultures” by Andrew Blauvelt, and “On the Social Authorship of The Bible” by Thomas Larson. Prompted by the readings, our group decided to explore the underlying design principles.  We began by reading and discussng “Design Principles” by Dieter Rams, and furthered the idea by exploring the opposites of these established design principles. The concept was shown through text and photos, resulting in a photo book illustrating the concept of opposites.
